Landlord Information Sharing Program
Conflicts between student tenants and landlords often occur due to a breakdown in communication. For this reason, the Off-Campus Student Services Office offers the Landlord Information Sharing Program. The purpose of the program is two-fold: 1. To provide student tenants with a constructive format to raise concerns about the quality of their off-campus housing and/or landlord in a manner that will lead to issue resolution; and 2. To provide student tenants a method for documenting their rental housing challenges and successes, so that prospective student tenants can view the types of concerns or issues as well as landlords’ responses year-to-year.
The goals of the Landlord Information Sharing Program are:
- To promote more effective and constructive communication between student tenants and their landlords;
- To provide a neutral context in which landlords can respond to and address student tenants’ concerns;
- To provide a record of student tenant concerns raised and the manner in which concerns were addressed; and,
- To reduce the number of student tenant concerns and complaints that ultimately go unknown, unresolved or escalate beyond the point where an amicable resolution is possible.
*DISCLAIMER: One purpose of this program is to provide students with a method for communicating with each other from year to year about their rental housing challenges and successes. We encourage students viewing the landlord files to consider not only the number and type of concerns raised, but the landlords’ responses to them. Please note that the views expressed in these materials are solely those of student tenants and their landlords and not those of the University of Connecticut.
